Driver location tracking notice
This notice is shown to drivers before background location permission is requested, and stays available in the operator app.
Prototype notice, under legal review.
This page states how the prototype handles information today and outlines what the final document will add. It is not legal advice. The final version will be approved by counsel before any public launch in Ghana.
What is collected and why
Akwantuo collects the device's location while an authorized route run is active. The purpose is to:
- Show operational vehicle status
- Coordinate approved passenger pickups
- Identify stale tracking and route deviations
- Support incident response
- Produce route-run records for the operator
When tracking starts and stops
Tracking begins when the driver explicitly starts an assigned run. It stops when the run ends, is terminated, the driver signs out, or permission is removed. The application should display a persistent operating-system indicator where supported and an in-app active-tracking state.
Who can see the location
Authorized dispatchers and platform operations personnel may see precise operational location. Passengers receive a limited service projection that may be delayed or reduced in precision.
Location should not be used as an automatic legal finding or an automatic disciplinary decision. GPS quality and context require review.
What the final notice must state
Retention, the operating entity, the driver's organization, lawful basis, required versus optional collection, access and correction channels, the complaint route, and the effect of refusing or revoking permission during assigned service.
If tracking continues after a run ends
Drivers should report a device that continues tracking after run end as a privacy and security incident immediately.
